![]() ![]() ![]() My WD player will take as long as 20 seconds to load a MKV that has been done using de-selection method but they will play. In a Media player a MKV done using this procedure will usually lock the player requiring the power plug be removed and re-inserted. Check 'Enabled' to keep the stream, uncheck to remove it. To replicate the described MKVToolnix use, select 'Convert', then 'Add files', selecting both video and subtitles. It is just a ffmpeg gui, so it can save in any format. A MKV re-muxed just using the de-select method will take much longer to load in a software player but they will usually play. dmMediaConverter is very similar to MKVToolnix. MKVtoolnix will allow you to use the MMG function to just de-select the items you no longer want from the original MKV but this procedure has never worked properly. If the chapters are in the same folder as the other items they will pop up in the select prompt screen. It takes lots of time and disk space to de- and re-mux every file. Note: The input file cannot be overwritten with the output file, hence we use a different name here. Click the Load button in the toolbar of the Subtitles dialog to import an existing file. We use the mkvmerge tool from this package to merge a SubRip SRT file into an existing video file: mkvmerge -o out.mkv in.avi in.srt. ![]() You can either load an existing subtitles file to VideoPad or create your own subtitles from scratch. Usually I select the video, audio and subtitles. To re-insert chapters you have to go to the global screen and select chapters. Sure, you can completely REMOVE subtitles with mkvmerge: mkvmerge -no-subtitles 'inputfile.mkv' -o 'outputfile.mkv' But this is heavy-handed and a real pain if you have a bunch of multi-GB files. To open the Subtitles window, select the Sequence on the menu tab and click the Subtitles button on the Home tab toolbar. In this article I will be showing you how to extract soft subtitles into a separate file, for editing. I insert the streams I want into the MMG gui for MKVtoolnix. The subtitles are in a separate file - these can be turned on/off, removed or modified. It'll take a few seconds and won't re-encode everything else. Simply open in MKVMerge, choose the track you want to remove (the text track if you want to remove subtitles), uncheck it, and remux. You can use the Extract from gui for MKV toolnix or you can use MKVcleaver to extract all the streams you want. If you have subtitles in an MKV file that you want gone, you don't have to re-encode the whole thing. ![]()
